Any standard USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner works with IsleBooks POS — scanners behave like a keyboard, so there is normally nothing to install. Plug it in (or pair it) and scan.
Scanning at the POS
On the POS screen just scan an item — you don't need to click into a field first. IsleBooks looks the code up in this order:
The product's Barcode field
The variation's SKU (for products with variants)
The product's SKU
A match is added to the cart instantly; scanning the same item again increases the quantity. An unknown code shows a clear warning so mis-labelled items don't silently sell wrong.
Setting up product barcodes
Products have a dedicated Barcode field, separate from the SKU — set it when adding or editing a product. If an item's manufacturer barcode is already printed on the packaging, enter that code and it will scan straight away; otherwise print your own labels (see the Barcode Printer and Label Settings articles).
Beyond the POS
Scanners also work anywhere you can type — product searches, purchases, and stock screens all accept a scan into their search boxes.
