Duplicating Products

The Duplicate Product feature allows you to quickly create a new product by copying an existing one. This is useful when creating products with similar information, reducing repetitive data entry and saving time.

Duplicate Product is particularly helpful when adding products that differ only in a few details, such as color, size, flavor, or model.

Duplicating a Product

  1. Go to Inventory → Products.

  2. Locate the product you want to copy.

  3. Right-click the product or open the Actions menu.

  4. Click Duplicate.

A new product form opens with the original product's information already filled in.

Update the Product Information

Before saving the duplicated product, review and update any information that differs from the original product, such as:

  • Product Name

  • SKU or Barcode

  • Category

  • Purchase Price

  • Selling Price

  • Variations

  • Images

  • Warranty

  • Tax

  • Business Locations

  • Other product-specific settings

Important: The duplicated product must have a unique SKU or barcode. If the original SKU is copied, update it before saving or leave it blank to allow IsleBooks POS to generate a new SKU automatically.

When to Use Duplicate Product

Duplicating products is useful for products with similar specifications.

Examples include:

  • A shirt available in multiple colors.

  • A drink available in different flavors.

  • A laptop with different storage capacities.

  • Furniture available in different finishes.

  • Products from the same brand with similar pricing and settings.

Instead of creating each product from scratch, duplicate an existing product and update only the fields that have changed.

What Is Copied?

The duplicated product copies most product settings, including:

  • Product details

  • Pricing

  • Categories

  • Tax settings

  • Units

  • Warranty settings

  • Business locations

  • Images (if applicable)

Inventory quantities, purchase history, sales history, stock movements, serial numbers, and transaction records are not copied.

This ensures the duplicated product starts as a completely new product while saving you time configuring its settings.
