Product Categories
Product Categories help you organize your inventory, making it easier to manage products, filter reports, and improve product navigation throughout IsleBooks POS.
Categories can also be used by the Website module to display products in a structured catalog.
Creating a Category
Go to Inventory → Categories.
Click Add Category.
Complete the category details.
Click Save.
Category Fields
Name
Enter a unique and descriptive name for the category.
Examples:
Beverages
Electronics
Clothing
Office Supplies
Parent Category (Optional)
Select a parent category to create a sub-category.
If left as None (Top-level), a new top-level category will be created.
Example:
Beverages ├── Soft Drinks ├── Juice ├── Tea └── Coffee
Short Code (Optional)
Enter a short code to help identify the category.
Example:
BEV
ELEC
FOOD
Description (Optional)
Provide additional information about the category for internal reference.
Website Icon (Optional)
If you use the Website module, you can assign an icon to represent the category on your online store.
You can:
Choose from the built-in icon library.
Upload your own custom icon.
If no icon is selected, IsleBooks POS will automatically display a default category icon.
Using Categories
When creating or editing a product, simply select the appropriate category.
Categories can be used to:
Organize products
Filter product lists
Generate category-based reports
Improve website navigation
Simplify inventory management
AI Category Suggestions
When adding a product, IsleBooks POS can automatically suggest the most appropriate category based on the product name and other available information.
You can accept the suggested category or choose a different one before saving the product.
Editing and Managing Categories
Existing categories can be:
Edited
Renamed
Moved under another parent category
Assigned or changed website icons
Deleted (if not currently in use)
Changes are automatically reflected across all products assigned to the category.
