Product Units
Note: The standalone Product Units feature has been deprecated.
In previous versions of IsleBooks POS, units such as Pieces, Boxes, Cartons, and their conversion ratios had to be created separately before they could be assigned to products.
This is no longer required.
How Product Units Work Now
Units are now configured individually for each product when creating or editing the product.
For every product, you can specify:
Base Unit – The primary unit used for stock management (for example, Pieces, Kilograms, Liters).
Bulk Unit (Optional) – A larger packaging unit such as Box, Case, Carton, or Pack.
Bulk Unit Multiplier – The number of base units contained in one bulk unit.
Example
Base Unit | Bulk Unit | Multiplier |
Piece | Box | 12 |
Bottle | Carton | 24 |
Kilogram | Bag | 25 |
In the first example, 1 Box = 12 Pieces.
Benefits
Managing units at the product level provides greater flexibility because each product can have its own packaging and conversion ratio.
For example:
Product A: 1 Box = 12 Pieces
Product B: 1 Box = 24 Pieces
Both products can use the same bulk unit name while maintaining different conversion ratios.
Importing Products
When importing products, you can also define unit information by providing:
Base Unit
Bulk Unit (optional)
Bulk Unit Multiplier (optional)
If the specified Base Unit does not already exist, IsleBooks POS automatically creates it during the import.
Existing Businesses
Businesses upgrading from earlier versions can continue using their existing units. New products should be configured using the product-level unit system described above.
