Importing Products
Importing products allows you to quickly create or update multiple products using a CSV or Excel file.
Unlike previous versions of IsleBooks POS, your file does not need to follow a specific template format. As long as your spreadsheet contains the required information, you can map your own column names during the import process.
Supported File Formats
CSV (.csv)
Microsoft Excel (.xlsx, .xls)
Maximum file size: 20 MB
Step 1: Prepare Your File
Go to Inventory → Import Products.
You have two options:
Download the sample template provided by IsleBooks POS.
Use your own CSV or Excel file.
If you use the sample template, keep the column headings unchanged to make importing easier.
Enter your product information according to the column descriptions provided.
When your file is ready, click Choose File, select your spreadsheet, and then click
Upload & Parse.
Step 2: Map Your Columns
After your file has been uploaded, IsleBooks POS will display the Column Mapping screen.
For each product field, select the corresponding column from your spreadsheet.
For example:
IsleBooks Field | Your Spreadsheet Column |
Product Name | Product Name |
SKU | Item Code |
Category | Category |
Base Unit | Unit |
Tax Rate | GST |
Description | Product Description |
If a field is not available in your spreadsheet and is optional, simply leave it as Skip.
Note: Required fields must be mapped before you can continue.
Step 3: Preview
Review the imported data to ensure everything has been mapped correctly.
Check for:
Missing required fields
Incorrect column mappings
Invalid values
Duplicate products or SKUs
If necessary, go back and adjust the mappings before continuing.
Step 4: Import Products
Once you are satisfied with the preview, click Import (or Commit) to create or update your products.
After the import completes, IsleBooks POS displays a summary showing:
Products imported successfully
Products updated
Rows skipped
Validation errors (if any)
Any rows containing errors can be corrected in your spreadsheet and imported again.
Updating Existing Products
If a product with the same SKU already exists, IsleBooks POS updates the existing product instead of creating a duplicate.
This makes it easy to perform bulk updates to:
Product names
Prices
Categories
Tax rates
Stock settings
Product descriptions
Other product information
Tips
SKU is the recommended unique identifier for updating existing products.
If the Base Unit does not already exist, IsleBooks POS automatically creates it.
You may optionally assign a Bulk Unit (such as Case or Carton) together with its multiplier.
Use the preview screen to verify your data before completing the import.
Your spreadsheet does not need to match the IsleBooks template exactly—simply map your columns during the import process.
